A new project for local renewable energy
On 15 June 2026, the municipality of Niederanven and Enovos inaugurated a new solar carport in Oberanven, in the presence of Prime Minister Luc Frieden, Mayor Fréd Ternes, Enovos Luxembourg CEO Erik von Scholz, Encevo Group CEO Claude Seywert, and Anouk Hilger, Head of Renewable Energy Development at Enovos, as well as government representatives, project partners and invited guests.
This new installation marks another important step in the development of local renewable energy production in Luxembourg.
Installed on the existing parking area of the Maison Relais, the project demonstrates how existing infrastructure can contribute to a more sustainable future while remaining fully operational for everyday use.
Local renewable energy with tangible benefits
The solar carport has an installed capacity of 519.72 kWp and is expected to generate around 500 MWh of green electricity every year.
The electricity produced will strengthen local renewable energy generation and help avoid approximately 97 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, contributing to both local and national climate objectives.
A long-standing commitment to sustainability and climate protection
The project is part of a broader initiative that the municipality of Niederanven has been pursuing for several years. Today, it is recognised as one of Luxembourg’s most active municipalities in advancing the energy transition and sustainable development.
Through numerous initiatives in the fields of energy, mobility, and climate protection, the municipality is actively pursuing its goals of reducing its carbon footprint and strengthening local production of renewable energy.
“The energy transition is built through concrete actions and projects that create sustainable value for citizens. This photovoltaic carport is fully in line with this vision. It reflects our commitment to act responsibly and to continue developing sustainable solutions for the benefit of our municipality and future generations,” emphasizes Fréd Ternes, Mayor of the municipality of Niederanven.
A partnership accelerating the development of renewable energies in Luxembourg
The project was developed through close collaboration between the municipality of Niederanven and Enovos, highlighting the important role partnerships between public and private stakeholders play in accelerating renewable energy projects.
Such collaborations make it possible to transform sustainability ambitions into tangible achievements that benefit both citizens and the environment.
With the inauguration of this new solar carport in Oberanven, Niederanven and Enovos are taking another step towards a more sustainable, local and resilient energy future while contributing to Luxembourg’s renewable energy objectives.
“This project perfectly illustrates the evolution of our energy system toward a more local and decentralized model that is closer to the needs of communities and businesses. The use of existing infrastructure is an important lever for accelerating the development of renewable energy while preserving current uses. Niederanven shows that it is possible to concretely transform climate ambitions into tangible achievements. We are proud to support municipalities that are so committed to their energy transition,” says Erik von Scholz, CEO of Enovos.
An example for future projects
As interest in renewable energy continues to grow across Luxembourg, similar initiatives are emerging not only among municipalities but also within the private sector.
Solar carports demonstrate how existing spaces can be transformed into valuable sources of clean energy without compromising their original purpose.
A similar approach was recently implemented at Panelux in Mensdorf, where a photovoltaic carport now supplies renewable electricity directly to the site’s operations. The installation is expected to generate around 970 MWh of green electricity per year and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
Projects like these show how existing infrastructure can help communities and businesses generate local renewable energy while making the most of available space.
