Enovos turns Panelux’s employee parking into a source of solar energy

The new solar carport at Panelux shows how companies can produce and use renewable electricity directly on site, transforming everyday spaces into valuable sources of local energy.

Turning parking space into renewable energy

On 27 May 2026, Panelux and Enovos inaugurated a new solar carport at the Panelux production site in Mensdorf, in the presence of Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism Lex Delles, Betzdorf alderman Olafur Sigurdsson, project partners and invited guests.

Covering approximately 6,600 m², the installation combines renewable electricity generation with the practical use of existing parking infrastructure.

Renewable energy, right where it is needed

The new carport serves two purposes at once: it protects vehicles while generating renewable electricity directly where it is consumed.

Its nearly 1,300 bifacial solar panels capture sunlight on both sides of the modules, using both direct and reflected light to increase energy production without requiring additional land.

With an installed capacity of 920.87 kWp, the system is expected to generate around 970 MWh of renewable electricity annually. This energy will be used primarily to power Panelux’s production activities, offices and shop through a self-consumption model.

Concrete benefits for Panelux and the environment

Producing electricity directly on site allows Panelux to gain greater control over its energy use while supporting a more sustainable energy system.

The installation is expected to avoid around 180 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year and contributes to the company’s long-term energy autonomy.

As Patrick Muller, CEO of Panelux, explains: “Today, our parking contributes to the production of our own electricity while helping reduce our carbon footprint.”

The project also supports Luxembourg’s ambition to strengthen local renewable energy production and increase energy resilience.

“The strengthening of local renewable energy production contributes directly to our climate objectives while reinforcing the country’s energy resilience.” Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism

A shared commitment to practical energy solutions

The project reflects a shared ambition to develop renewable energy projects that deliver tangible benefits for businesses while supporting Luxembourg’s energy transition.

As Erik von Scholz, CEO of Enovos, highlights: “This project shows that it is possible to combine renewable energy production, intelligent use of existing surfaces and the real needs of businesses. These are exactly the kinds of solutions we want to continue developing with our partners and contribute to Luxembourg’s energy transition objectives.”

By generating renewable electricity where it is consumed, the Mensdorf solar carport demonstrates how businesses can take practical steps towards greater energy independence while contributing to national climate objectives.

A model for future renewable energy projects

The solar carport in Mensdorf illustrates how existing infrastructure can deliver additional value without changing its primary purpose.

For businesses, this approach offers a practical way to produce renewable electricity locally while making efficient use of available space.

Similar initiatives are continuing to emerge across Luxembourg, reflecting a growing interest in local renewable energy production and self-consumption solutions.

This is also the case in Niederanven, where another solar carport project developed with Enovos demonstrates how existing spaces can support the growth of renewable energy.

As more organisations look for practical ways to manage their energy use, projects like these show that the energy transition can start with spaces that are already part of everyday operations.
