The right temperature

The ideal temperature for a freezer is -18°C, otherwise it will use too much electricity.

By raising the temperature of the refrigerator from 5°C to 7°C, you can save 15% on energy.

Everything in its place…

Every food needs a different storage temperature. Experience shows that food placed in the low temperature zone keeps up to three times longer than in the normal refrigeration zone. Hot food can only be placed in the refrigerator when it is well cooled and well wrapped, fruit and vegetables should be stored un-wrapped.

Our tips to save you money

  • Buy an appliance of the right size for your needs, the emptier the fridge, the more energy it consumes. And opt for an A++ appliance.
  • In chest freezers, the cold accumulates at the bottom and there is less loss when opening.
  • Do not place your fridge or freezer near a heat source (heater, cooker, etc.).
  • Do not open the door of your appliances too often and for too long, as this will disturb the ambient temperature of the fridge.
  • Do not overload your fridge, as this will reduce the efficiency of the cooling process.
  • Freezers with reinforced insulation have the advantage of keeping their contents frozen longer in the event of a power cut.
  • One large fridge uses less energy than two small ones.
  • Is a freezer really necessary? Refrigerators without a freezer use 20% less energy.

When cleanliness means savings…

  • Check that the ventilation grilles are free of dust so that the air can circulate freely.
  • Freezers without automatic defrosting should be defrosted as soon as the layer of ice exceeds one centimetre in thickness, a clean and environmentally friendly gesture.
  • Check for leaks: dirty or damaged seals can let cold and therefore energy escape.
