Optimising your own energy consumption
So you’ve decided to install solar panels? If you opt for self-consumption, then make sure you optimise the consumption of the electricity you produce.
An installation tailored to your needs
Self-consumption is an interesting option for anyone with solar panels… as long as your installation is adapted to your consumption. An installation with a very high production capacity will not be beneficial if it is not adapted to your consumption. The aim is for you to consume as much of the electricity you produce as possible.
So it’s important to have an idea of your daily consumption before installing your panels.
Increasing the proportion of self-consumption
When you have a photovoltaic installation and opt for self-consumption, the aim is to consume as much of the energy you produce as possible. So it’s important to realise that you consume the energy when it’s produced. In other words, you consume your own energy when your panels are producing energy, i.e. during the sunny hours of the day. During the hours when you are not producing, you use electricity from the grid.
To increase your share of self-consumption, you can start by running your household appliances or charging your car during the day, when your panels are producing energy. If you’re not at home, many appliances can now be programmed to switch on or be controlled remotely.
You can also opt to install a battery to store the electricity produced, giving you greater autonomy.
