Josy Simon - It's never too late for a new challenge

Josy Simon, 85 years old, will take part in the ING Night Marathon for the 6th time in a row. Despite his age, he is a source of admiration and motivation for the runners.

This motto is very familiar to him. This year, Josy Simon is taking part in the ING Night Marathon in Luxembourg for the sixth time. This is not a leap into the unknown for the senior citizen: the 85-year-old Luxembourger, who holds several world records in walking and running, is not afraid to lace up his trainers. A colourful record of achievement

Josy Simon won his first prize in 1957, the Grand Prix à la Marche de la ville de Luxembourg. The continuation of his sporting career enabled him to win the Trophy for best sportsman twice.

In the 1970s, this outstanding walker won the Strasbourg-Paris, a long walk of 500 kilometres, four times. More than 40 years later, at the age of 80 and shortly after discovering his passion for running, he beat the record holder in the over-80s category of the Steyr ultra race in Austria. A race of over 100 kilometres! “Convincing yourself that you can do it is already half the battle.

In the legs but also in the head

Josy Simon is known today as a great sportsman, despite his advanced age. He arouses admiration and amazement and is a source of motivation for runners.
